  1. The kind of community that grows up around beloved stories.  J.K. Rowling released a new Harry Potter book yesterday and the world went insane.  It has been five years since the last movie was released and nearly ten since the last new book.  In other words, it’s been a while.  But all of the (pardon the term) magic that that series has to offer affected and continues to affect people so much that it was almost as if there was no gap at all.  Goes to show just how powerful the right story can really be.
  2. Standing in the middle of the road.  I wouldn’t recommend trying this on a busy street or one that actually gets much traffic at all, but in a neighborhood maybe, or in the middle of nowhere.  I couldn’t tell you why, but it’s a pretty cool perspective.
  3. Being in cool water on a hot day.  Wading into a lake and feeling the smooth, soothing space slide up your legs and waist and eventually shoulders.  Or jumping into a pool, the sharp shock of the water shushed by the bubbles that blanket you until you break the surface.  Your teeth would be chattering and your skin would be riddled with goosebumps but the day is draped in the honey of summer sunshine and it perfectly compliments the leisurely lapping of waves at your skin.
  4. Produce stands on the side of the road.  A card table loaded with homegrown sweetcorn or squash or cucumbers or any number of things that someone toiled to plant and lovingly nurture into an impossibly tasty harvest.
